About the Farm
Koepsell Charolais Farm is a 3rd generation family owned operation in rural Southeast South Dakota established in 1952, with Charolais and Char-X cattle being our main focus since 1964. We run a herd of around 80 top quality home-raised Charolais cattle focusing on performance, maternal characteristics, and longevity!
We believe the Charolais breed of cattle can be put up against any other for the best performing, maximum gaining, and easiest handling kind out there. We have seen the smokey and buckskinned calves top the market at many sales. Breeding Charolais can truly maximize your profits and ease of handling!

Our mission at Koepsell Charolais Farm is to provide some of the best performing and easiest handling seedstock available. Our cattle are easy feeding as we do not push them with high amounts of feed to get those unrealistic, heightened gains because we know not every operation works like that. We pride ourselves in the longevity of all our bulls, no matter the type of operation they may be going into. We represent our stock with honesty and the highest detail so there can be nothing to surprise our fellow producers. We strive to produce herd sires and females with easy calving, gentle dispositions, as well as top gaining and performing attributes to maximize our customer's profits at the sale barn!
Our Story
Our purebred operation was started in 1995 by Marlon Koepsell and wife Rene Koepsell, they worked hard to provide the locals with some of the very best producing bulls around. In 2009, purebred production on the operation was halted and focus turned more to the commercial side of the cattle industry while still keeping some of the very best Charolais cows and daughters in the herd. In 2015 his eldest son, Logan, decided to join ownership and operations. They since have been building a high quality purebred registered herd while providing many fellow cattlemen with premium seedstock through that same honest, highly detailed, performance driven motto that has always been followed.
